Pesticide Degradation Kinetics

چکیده
Typically degradation of a pesticide is a biotic process, however, there are abiotic degradation processes as well. The latter include photodegradation (that can produce a wild array of products) and various types of chemical degradation processes. Restricting degradation to the soil interior (no photodegradation component) and assuming negligible chemical degradation, pesticide degradation is an enzymecatalyzed transformation. The rate of an enzyme-catalyzed reaction can be described by Michaelis-Menten kinetics

Spatial and Temporal Variability of Carbofuran Degradation in Soil
Loss of pesticide efficacy resulting from enhanced rates of microbial degradation has been observed with several pesticides including the insecticide carbofuran (2,3-dihydro-2,2-dimethyl-7-benzofuranyl methylcarbamate). Soils in which this phenomenon occurs are often referred to as "problem soils." Several previous studies have documented the temporal aspects of the conversion of a nonproblem s...
متن کاملEvaluation of Methods for Characterizing Carbofuran Hydrolysis in Soil
The objective of this study was to develop a method that could be applied to investigations of soil/environmental factors influencing the spatial and temporal variability of carbofuran hydrolysis in field soils. Two factors were considered: (i) soil handling and pesticide application, and (ii) the method of data summarization. Three soil handling/pesticide treatments were evaluated: (i) sieved ...
متن کاملChemical Degradation of Dieldrin using Ferric Sulfide and Iron Powder
The chemical degradation of dieldrin in ferric sulfide and iron powder aqueous suspension was investigated in laboratory batch type experiments. To identify the reaction mechanism, reduced copper was used as reductant. More than 90% of dieldrin was degraded using both reaction systems after 29 days. Initial degradation rate of the pesticide using ferric sulfide was superior to that using iron p...
متن کاملSynergetic Treatment of Pesticide Contaminated Drinking Water by Combined RO Separation and Electrochemical Degradation
This project studied the electrochemical removal of the pesticide transformation product 2,6-dichlorobenzmide (BAM) in Danish drinking water produced from groundwater at two different anode materials. The influence of the electrolyte composition on the degradation kinetics and pathways of BAM was clarified. Although chloride is present in small concentrations in the groundwater, persistent chlo...
متن کاملKinetic effect of humic acid on alachlor degradation by anodic Fenton treatment.
Contamination of water often results from the heavy use of agricultural chemicals, and the disposal of aqueous pesticide waste is a concern. Anodic Fenton treatment (AFT) has been shown to be a successful remediation method for pesticides in solution, but the effect of soil on the degradation kinetics of pesticides using this method has not been determined. The purpose of this study was to stud...
